Training programme for Community Police Officers

A training seminar was organised for the Community Police officers in the Police Training Centre of Amritsar Police Line from 29 to 30 August 2009 on the directions of the office of the Director General of Police Punjab. This seminar was attended by 10 officers two each from Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala and Bathinda districts. 10 additional officers of Amritsar District also attended this course.
A complete briefing regarding community policing was given by Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, SSP Amritsar. He also narrated the roles & responsibilities of Community Police Officers in detail.
Prof. V.P. Lumba, former Principal of Hindu College Amritsar imparted a lecture on creating community friendly atmosphere in the police stations. He also emphasised on the needs of community participation in the active policing.
Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor, a leading Advocate and social worker, gave an insight picture of peoples Expectations from the Police. He also stressed upon improving the justice delivery system of police.
Sh. Sarabjit Singh, IAS(Retd), Former Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar addressed the participants in the valedictory session. He also shared his own experiences while working as Deputy Commissioner and role of community in helping the police to bring normalcy in the State.
Besides this, the participants were apprised with basic learning of Computers and Internet by the Amritsar chapter of the NIIT. Sh. Gurjeet Sekhon, Director of the NIIT, extended full support to organise this programme.
The participants were also given live demonstrations of Yoga and a lecture on importance of Yoga in policing by our trained Yoga Teachers of Amritsar Police on both days in the morning.
